The swiss market

The swiss market is certainly characterized by an institutionnal complexity : 26 cantons and half-cantons , three linguistic regions and four official languages : german, french , italian and romansch.

We must consider that as a country member of the WTO , the swiss market is open to the essential of industrial goods but maintains customs and sanitary restrictions in the sector of agricultural goods and food-processing industries in the form of custom taxes and veterinary prescriptions.

We can add that in the field of technical norms , with very few exceptions , the swiss Confederation tends to align with the european standards.

We can also point to the fact that Switzerland signed the plurilateral agreement of the WTO on public procurement. Those are published daily in the official bulletin of every canton and on the specific website  SIMAP

The Confederation is Belgium's 10th customer and Belgium is also the 10 th supplier of Switzerland.

The swiss Confederation is our 2nd customer outside the European Union.

Statistics on the swiss balance of trade with the rest of the world and with Belgium are available on the website :www.zoll.admin.ch
